Okay, it’s between a BRZ Limited and a WRX Premium but still!

Also, there is a pretty sizable amount of BRZ and WRX/STi shots which leads me to believe I am not the first to make this realization. I may actually be on the tail-end.

You are indeed on the tail-end, but it’s still a great realization to come to! :)

Yes it is. Now...if only I had the cash to waltz into the Subaru dealership.

One thing is for sure though. 5 years later the WRX will be worth more.

Just look for a used BRZ or FR-S, values are pretty damn low right now.

That is so true. I’m also curious to find out how much negotiating could be done with a new BRZ since it seems they’re sitting on lots for a while.

Used will still be a LOT cheaper. ;)

Significantly so I imagine. If buying new, the WRX seems like you get much more car for the money. But they are also entirely different cars anyways. Definitely used FRS seems like the way to go though.

People like to complain about the power of these cars, but to me the biggest issue is the pricing. How in the world is it the same price as a turbo all wheel drive rally-inspired car? I love the BRZ/FRS/etc but it should have been 5 grand cheaper. Price the FRS to be an alternative to the tC and you’ve got yourself a winner. But pricing it the same as a WRX? Nope.

Which would you rather have? I’m having a tough time deciding myself.

One is RWD and has sooooo many different modding options, the other is turbo+awd and easily made much faster. Either way, I know I'd be eating ramen for months with how much I'd be modifying them haha.

Why buy either when you can buy a Boostang instead?

I’ve realized this for a while, and wrote a comparison in January.

http://www.rightfootdown.com/reviews/brz-vs…

The answer, for me, is WRX, despite the fact that I drive a BRZ now. The reasons for my flip-flop are mostly situational. When I bought my BRZ I was living the bachelor life. Now I’m married and she has two kids who don’t fit in my back seat. *I* fit in the back seat of a WRX. It also rides better than the BRZ’s rather stiff suspension, which is great on the track but not entirely comfortable on the streets of the Boston suburbs.

Though truth be told, lately I’m leaning more toward a GTI than either Subaru for my next daily driver.

Its basically a fat, lazy brz but with more power, you might call it the BRZ’s american cousin!

Yep. I think I’m more in shock at how heap the WRX is. Like you said though, for folks who prefer power then the WRX makes a pretty solid argument against the BRZ.

Haha yet again, we are two peas in a pod. I also have a hard time deciding between these two. Like you said, the BRZ is a RWD hoon-mobile that can be modded in so many different ways while the WRX is the every day / every man or woman car.

Not sure how the new WRX engine is for power addition but I remember the old WRX/STi engines being a nightmare to add reliable power to. Every power-related mod needed a retune if I’m not mistaken.

I’m personally kind of biased to the BRZ though since it’s lower slung and less practical. Yes, I said less practical since I have a large coupe for now and I want something that’s impractical for the hell of it next. Also I like the seating position of the BRZ.

It’s true. The WRX is an incredible performance bargain, and the BRZ is overpriced, meeting somewhere in the middle.

I haven't driven a new WRX/STI but I have gotten to drive my friends FRS, and I agree. The seating position is great and it just feels like a car I would like to drive. Only got to drive it around the neighborhood a little bit but it was nice, clutch and shifter were both easy to get used to.

You are making me want to go the BRZ route. Really hoping things will line up and I can get myself into a BRZ soon. I’ve been yearning for a fun car for years haha

Except the WRX isn’t really that nice to look at and if I was going to get a fast 4 door sedan, then I would get a G8 GXP. SOOOO MANY MODS!!! Great power and reliability. Also a very good looking car that you don’t see quite as often. They are a special car and not usually see as BRO cars. Plus factory LS isn’t bad.

The BRZ would be fun, but for the same price you can get a Corvette. I was looking at the BRZ, then we had a C5 Z06 for 8K less, but then I bought my GTO instead.

They’re getting cheaper!! Friend got his FRS for $14k. I’d go for a BRZ myself (WRB duh) but they're definitely gonna be sub $18k cars in the next year EASILY.

What?! That’s a screaming deal! I’ve been looking around craigslist recently and the only ones with clean titles and reasonable miles are $18k+. Although I am located in California so that might have something to do with it.
